How long does it take to plan a church wedding in Mauritius?
Preparation typically takes 4-5 months due to documentation and priest arrangements.
What language are the ceremonies conducted in?
Ceremonies can be held in English or French, based on your preference.
Can we have a civil and church wedding on the same trip?
Yes! Civil weddings can be arranged a day (or longer) before the church ceremony.
What happens if our documents are delayed?
The secretary of the church in Mauritius must receive all documentation 2 months prior to the wedding day at the latest. Please make sure your priest sends it by post 3 months prior to the date at the latest.
Do we need to be Catholic to get married in a Catholic church in Mauritius?
Churches in Mauritius require at least one of the partners to be Catholic. The non-Catholic partner must obtain a Nihil Obstat, which is a declaration from a priest or bishop confirming there are no obstacles to the marriage. This document ensures that the marriage can proceed according to the Church’s rules. It’s important to arrange this a couple of months in advance.
Can we get married in any church in Mauritius?
Yes. Based on where you are staying, we can advise you on the most suited church for your wedding.
Can we include personal touches, like music or readings, in the ceremony?
Yes, Mauritian churches allow couples to incorporate personalized music, readings, and vows. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss these options with the priest a couple of days prior to your church wedding.
